Calcifications and fibrocysts

Hi

Due to family breast cancer history I'm screened as having moderate increased risk.  Had annual mammograms until I reached 50 last year, they then said back to usual process.

About 11 weeks ago my GP noticed something in my right breast using ultrasound scan after I'd complained of discomfort/change.

Rapid referral to breast clinic so 2 weeks later saw nurse who said  couldnt feel anything and to wait until the year marker since last checks.

That's last week so 8 weeks later, mammogram showed calcification, ultra sound showed cluster of ?cysts that she Core biopsied marker placed.

Today had stereotactic biopsys 9 in total... Ouch!  Results from last week's biopsy was benign fibro cysts.. PHEW!

Doc said it was good or useful as they targeted well, the biopsys today showed multiple calcifications  from most sites and other with few or none.

I have my follow up next Wednesday and of course I've been googling everything and think I'm driving myself mad.

Any advise or wisdom appreciated

  • Hello Tracmal and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might all mean. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. It won't be long now until Wednesday and hopefully you will get some definite answers then.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
