Thyroid Lobectomy Decision

Hi, this is my first time posting but have been reading others posts for several months & they’ve been so helpful.

My story is that I found an enlarged lymph node in my left clavicle area in Dec, after having pain in my collarbone for some months. GP referred me urgently for investigations which included X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, blood tests etc. They didn’t seem too concerned about the lymph node but discovered a nodule on my thyroid which they rescanned 3 months later. There was no change on the rescan but the result was U3 so they decided to do a FNA biopsy. Unfortunately this was “inadequate”.

So back to see consultant yesterday & he (& his registrar who popped in) has advised that I have a left lobectomy to be sure. I’m terrified of surgery & because they’ve never really seemed that concerned, I just feel like it’s taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut & I genuinely don’t know what to do. If any scan or biopsy really suggested cancer then of course I would go ahead. I don’t want to go through surgery unnecessarily but at the same time, I know leaving it is a bit of a gamble. He did say if I don’t want to go ahead I could opt to have it rescanned in 6 months & take it from there.

Just don’t know what to do!!!!

Many advice or personal stories of the surgery & experiences would be hugely appreciated

TIA
