Cervical cancer scared

Hello,

I have been waiting for the past month to have a colposcopy after having abnormal bleeding between periods. The bleeding was a salmon pink colour. When the GP examined my cervix she could see a cut but said apart from that my cervix lols normal. My last smear test was 3 years ago as my letter for my second one has just come through. I’m so scared that I have it and I’m really nervous about the colposcopy and what they could find.

Thanks for reading and replying if you do.

  • Hi Gemmalou

It’s good that your gp said your cervix looks normal. The colposcopy will identify if there are any areas of abnormal cells, and if so they can be dealt with in a straightforward procedure.

There can be many reasons for unusual bleeding, so don’t jump to worrying about cervical cancer. This is a slow growing cancer and it can take many years for abnormal cells to develop into cancer. It looks like you’re up to date with your smear tests, so make sure you keep attending your appointments and I’m sure you will be just fine.

I know it’s really hard not to worry, but focus on the fact you’ve been told your cervix look normal. Hope you get on ok with the colonoscopy...it’s really just enabling the doctor to have a close look at your cervix to make sure there’s nothing there. xx

  • Thank you so much for responding to me and making me feel better!! What you have said will keep me at ease until Tuesday! I hope you have a lovely weekend!

  • Hi Gemma

I’m glad you are more at ease now and I hope you get on ok on Tuesday. It’s a really simple procedure and you should be fine. Hope you’ll come back and let us know how you got on, and good luck! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. xx
