just wondered how you got on. I know it can be the waiting around that drives us mad, despite the many possible outcomes.  

I’m 48 and 12 mths post menopausal, been on hrt combined for around 6 months and presented to my doc in July with sudden onset of heavy, irregular, clotted and crampy bleeding.  Sent for vaginal ultrasound which showed thickened lining so Im awaiting a gynae appointment for hysteroscopy and D&C.  I took myself off the hrt until I find out whats going on.  The wheels move slowly here in Dublin on public health waiting lists and the gynae in particular has 30000 women waiting to be seen at present.  I was told I should have an appointment to see a consultant by Christmas but as you can imagine I am constantly imagining all sorts and what might be getting worse in the meantime...  It just annoys me that despite the quick scan and referral, the doctors all seem to tell you not to worry!  Like its that easy! 

I’m no hypochondriac, I have a rare bone condition that I am already managing on a daily basis so having this hanging over me is not fun.

Sorry to hear your going through this and the waiting game is so stressful... I’m wondering whether your scan showed thickening without any signs of obvious problems...I had the same but was referred quickly and had my hysteroscopy done and the thickening was actually a very large fibroid that had split causing the very heavy bleed! He removed it and i’m Now post op of 11 weeks and am starting to get my life back together.... I had virtually the same as you apart from not going on HRT and he fitted the mirena coil as well which has made a huge difference... sorry I cant help with anything diagnostic but I do wish you well and let me know how you get on... do push along if things don’t settle or get worse! X

The thickening didn't show any obvious fibroids or polyps, (but of course, there could still well be) and until the hysteroscopy I won't know.  I'm seeing my GP again on 8 Oct so I will be asking how thick the lining was measured at.  I did have the mirena coil pre menopause, but after having 3 children, it didn't control the heavy bleeds as it used to and it had to be taken out anyway to go on HRT.  

Like many on here, I'm watching gynae videos about endometrial hyperplasia etc, which doesn't freak me out too much, I'd just rather know quickly what I'm dealing with and get treatment for whatever that is.

It's nice to be able to sound off other women here. At the moment, I have only mentioned to my husband that I'm having 'women's issues'  He's great, but I had bactrial meningitis in 2009 and was on life support so I don't want him googling and well, you can imagine the rest!

It's the one thing I miss since moving to Dublin, the healthcare of the NHS (I'm Scottish)  I've had a lot of treatment and ops on the NHS and find them second to none.  People who moan about the NHS should come and live in a country with no universal healthcare and they would soon see what they are missing.

I did have the mirena coil to begin with but after 13 months without a period ( 56) I decided to have it removed...however I went 6 months without it before I had the heavy bleed... the scan showed the thickening but not a obvious cause ( fibroid) and it was the hysteroscopy that they found it . The consultant told me that after having the mirena coil for 15 years and then having it removed unbalanced my wilting hormones and also contributed to the heavy bleed, with clots. I worried for 3 months that I might have womb cancer and having the coil put  back in calmed it all back down... I do hope your situation works out as good as mine, I know its easier for me to say and believe you me I know exactly how your feeling,but try not to worry to much until you’ve had the hysteroscopy which will give the answers and the best treatment... I had to wait 6 weeks for my hysteroscopy results and that was the worst time of my life! Take care
