Biopsy result

Is there a time limit patients might wait for biopsy results? Following screening recall, I had my ultrasound and biopsy samples in the one stop shop and was then told ‘we’ll ring you with an appointment for results ‘. Everyone else in clinic was given appointments for one week but the breast care nurse said they didn’t have any more appointments. I think there’s no point having the test if you don’t receive prompt results? I was really cross to not even have any indication of when this appointment might be?

  • I am in a similar situation I had a core biopsy and was told I would get the results in 7-10 days and they would send me an appointment.  On the 10th day I rang to ask when my appointment would be and was told the pathologist was still looking  at the sample therefore it will be next week, which will be nearly three weeks of waiting.  Which is very hard not knowing and not having a appointment booked in.

Good luck and I hope you receive a good outcome.

  • Hi

I understand the target for ladies to receive results after assessment is 7 days. That information was not easy to come by. I did actually receive my results on day 7, but only after receiving a phone call late afternoon on day 6, giving me less than 24 hrs notice. This meant I couldn’t rearrange my shift, nor was anyone available to go with me.  The news wasn’t good, which I had assumed as they managed to find me an urgent appointment. I then had to drive back to work to complete the shift, having fabricated an urgent broken tooth appointment.

Wishing you well as you wait, it sounds like your experience falls well short of the target the service is supposed to provide.
