Lump in Breast

I was experiencing breast pain for a couple of weeks and then I found a lump in my breast. I went to my doctors and within a week I had a hospital appointment. I had a mammogram and was told the lump was big. I then had an ultrasound and they did a biopsy. I had 4 done in 2 different places on my breast and then 2 under my arm. I get my results on the 12th. I received a copy of a letter that went to my doctor saying that I had 3 lesions, 1 under my arm measuring 15mm one in my breast measuring 11mm and another one. I’m so terrified of it being serious and any little aches I get in my back or rib cage I’m scared that it could also be something serious and I’m constantly feeling scared and anxious and I’m so scared as I have young children and an amazing partner but I’m terrified of leaving them. I know it could be nothing but I can’t get this fear out of my head.

  • Hello Naomi.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about the concerns that you're facing at the moment. We do have lots of ladies here on the forum who have been in your position and you're right, it could be nothing. But equally we know that it's really hard to not worry while you're waiting for the results of your biopsy.

It's great that you've got a supportive partner and I'm sure that the children keep you busy. Many of our members here will say that keeping busy in this period of waiting was the best way that they found to cope. It's easy to say but just try to take each day as it comes at the moment and not think too far ahead. Hopefully with the school holidays you've got some things planned with the children and this will help the next week or so pass quickly.

If you think it would help to chat things through with one of our team of nurses then please do give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040 and I@ msure they'll be able to offer some advice and support.

Keep in touch Naomi and let us know how you get on at your appointment.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you so much for everything you said. I received my results yesterday and have been diagnosed with grade 2 breast cancer. I think in a way I just knew. I have a ct scan and mri booked for Thursday and then I see the doctor again next Tuesday. They have already told me that I will require surgery plus chemotherapy and radiotherapy plus medication because it’s oestrogen that’s making the tumour grow. Tuesdays appointment will decide whether I need a lumpectomy or mastectomy and if it’s surgery or treatment first.
