Waiting for breast clinic appointment

I found a lump in my breast about a week ago. I went to see the nurse practitioner yesterday and she has given me an urgent referral to the breast clinic at the local hospital. I was expecting her to say it was nothing to worry about, so I was a bit surprised by the urgent referral. Today I've noticed that my skin sinks in above the lump, and if I pull the skin the lump comes with it. According to Google (I know I shouldn't rely on Dr Google but it's hard not to look!), this is not a good sign. Feeling really worried now and just want to know one way or the other.

  • hi,

i am also playing the waiting game and it’s awful. I’ve had pain and thickening for about a month that didn’t go after last period.

saw GP Monday who noticed swelling and immediately felt the thickening and found a lump. Referred me on 2 week referral but I go n hols next Friday (just under 2 weeks). Called today to see when I’m likely to hear and was told average wait is 25 days. She said gp has marked as very urgent so I’m on cancellation list.

cant really afford to go private but the pain is getting worse daily and I’ve found another lump. Not sure whether to try and put on credit card but it is £250 just for consultation. Scans etc extra.

i just don’t know that to do.

The waiting is awful, if it’s something I’d rather know.

    do you have any pain?

  • Oh blimey - poor you. I hadn't even thought I might have to wait longer than 2 weeks. If I were you, and I could stick it on a credit card without it totally breaking the bank, I would probably go private and hopefully get peace of mind before going on holiday.

Not got any pain, but it's a big lump that you can see from the skin, and the skin is sort of pulled in next to it. No idea how long it's been there, spend my life running round after 2 small children so don't really pay much attention to myself!

Here's hoping that you don't have to wait too long and that you get good news xx
