Ovarian cancer

Hello, I'm 42 and for the last few months I've been noticing that I have very little appetite and when I do eat I only manage a few mouthfuls and I'm full, so full that I have to undo my trousers.

Then last week my husband mentioned that I'd not brought any tampons for a while and I looked back and I've not had a proper period since February, just a bit of spotting every now and then. (I use an app to track my periods and any symptoms).

I went to my GP yesterday and she's concerned that I may have ovarian cancer. I'm booked in for hormone and CA-125 bloods on Monday and the hospital called me today and I've an appointment for a scan on Saturday.

I have since looked at all of the symptoms and I have them all, some of them I didn't think about as I have many health issues and I kind of lumped them under the pre-existing problems but I now realise that these all started between march and June of this year as I keep a diary of my health for DWP purposes (lower back pain, extreme fatigue, needing to urinate more, pain in my pelvis, constipation/loose bowels).

I'm really scared.

  • Hi YoNoHeSido and welcome to the forum, although I'm sorry for the reason you've joined us.

I'm not sure what time your scan is today but I just wanted to wish you good luck and let you know we'll be thinking of you. If you have a pen and paper handy maybe you could note down a few questions and take it with you. They may not be able to answer all of them but hopefully talking things through will help make this a little less scary and manageable.

Our members know how challenging this part of the process can be so fingers crossed some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

We'll be hoping that the doctor's suspicions are not confirmed.

    Kind regards,
