Crusty Mole

Hi.  I have a mole on my breast that has recently become crusty and bleeding.  It doesn't itch.  Should I be worried?

  • Hi,

Hopefully it won't be anything serious but any mole that bleeds and crusts should be checked out by your GP. Make an appointment & ask if they have a GP who specialises in dermatology. Some practices have one GP who is trained how to use a dermascope which shows them any suspicious cells in the mole that requires a referral to dermatology for further investigation. If your practice doesn't have such a GP, your own GP may be able to diagnose it as a simple infection. If they are unsure, they will refer you to dermatology for an expert to examine it.

If you have to wait a while for the appointment I suggest you take a photo of the mole so that, should it change in the meantime, you can show your GP what it looked like today. Goog luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Thank you so much.  I have made an appointment for this afternoon as I'm freaking out here.

Hopefully it will be nothing...will keep you posted x
