Biopsy Results - Mouth Cancer - Help"

Hello.

So. i had a biopsy 3 weeks ago today for a lesion on my tongue.

I called today to chase them and they said they have an appointment for me to discuss my results on the 30th August (so a months time).

Am i reading too much into in in thinking if it was something horrible theyd have got me in earlier than that? They said they posted a letter yesterday but it still hasnt arrive.

  • Honestly with hospitals you just cant tell or predict, my uncle has lung cancer and the found a shadow on my mums lung both never smoked ,  my uncle got hisntesults within 6 weeks, my mum has had an xray a ct scan an mri and were now waiting for pet scan and biopsy. It's natural to think the worse and hard not to but the best advice i could offer you is to try and not worry, try to keep busy with other things keep your mind occupied, worrying for the next month isnt going to help you weather it cancer or not. Work on getting your strenght up, just incase you need it. Imo I would say if it where cancer your appointment would be quicker however I'd also think they would just tell you over the phone rather than make an appointment. My mum went today and will have a biopsy and pet scan and results by 21st August according to het dr anyway  hope your okay.

  • Hi Dazzyboy

I have been through the nhs system for a similar condition. If I am correct you were referred 22/06 you had your biopsy 18 days later so you were seen within the time guidelines for suspected cancer. The guidelines say treatment should be started by 62 days if a malignancy is found in biopsy, all going well with the nhs system that is.

The thing to remember that there are many many lesions that are not cancerous the figure of biopsies done stand at 90 out of 100 are found to be not cancerous.

Being the peak time of year for staff holidays appointments will be much later I think. I was referred on 2week referral late Nov but was not seen till mid Jan Xmas and new year effect for sure my 2week referral ended up 8weeks almost. I just put it to the back of my mind and got on with life.

Try not to read into things just keep yourself busy, weve all been there its a horrible time waiting for results. Try to stay positive it helps.xx
