Sonographer says nothing!

Hi all, I'm mid way through breast cancer treatment, but have been having a lot of abdominal pain and discomfort. My GP urgently referred me for a pelvic ultrasound to 'rule out' ovarian cancer, and I had it this morning. It was an abdominal ultrasound followed by a transvaginal ultrasound.

I could see at one point that she was measuring what looked like a black mass on the screen, but I didn't ask her what it was. She pretty much did the whole process without saying anything positive or negative at all. When I had my breast ultrasound earlier in the year I remember the radiologist saying he didn't think there was anything to worry about but he'd biopsy just in case (he was wrong!!). But this got me thinking. If there is nothing abnormal showing up on an ultrasound surely the sonographer would say so ? Given that today's lady said nothing at all aside from the fact that my GP would have my results within 7 days, I'm now worrying that something is actually wrong in my pelvis. Has anyone else had a sonographer say nothing at all positive but had a good outcome anyway ?

I'm driving myself up the wall with this.

  • Hi all

I had a double transvaginal & abdominal scan today too

Does anyone know why the scanner calls out numbers to their work colleagues?

Wondering why she called 11 on one side&only 3 on the other?

    Love to all

  • Hi I've just come back from the same and my

sonographer also called out numbers one was 59 and the other 48. Just wondering if you found out what they meant as it's left me feeling really worried.

  • Hi there

I've since been informed that the numbers are measurements but they were calling numbers for a while before i twigged what they were doing:-relating them to me

But i've since been diagnosed with adenomyosis but it took an MRI scan to detect this

My own gp was relling me there was virtually wrong It was a gynaecologist who picked up on the cysts, fibroids & adenomyosis so we must always trust our intuition if it's telling us something is wrong because our gps can be quick to fob us off

Please make sure you ask for 2nd opinions etc & all the questions you need to

Really hope this helps some what

    Much love to all

  • Hi..i had a transvaginal on 16th Sep...the sonographer was quite chatty and  said lining looked nice and thin.  then he said everything looked ok but he would  have a good look at scan befire sending it to GP.

Today i got a text from GP saying they had made an appointment for wednesday to discuss results via phone

Im really worried and panicking as my GP surgery dont ever call with test results. In the past its always me who has to ring up for blood test results , heart scan etc..

    Scared.  X

  • I understnd it's much easier said than done:-but please try to not be worried

I've found it's the sweeping things under the carpet that is the dangerous frightening thing

My Mum suffered with terrible headaches for years, worked really hard, as a nurse, herself, through it all :- Until one day she just collapsed in pain, She couldn't keep going any-more & was rushed to hospital

Had She faced her headaches sooner & not swept them under the carpet:-She might still be here today

But by the time her tumour was diagnosed, She had grade 4 terminal brain tumour

Seems those who nip things in the bud, sooner rather than later, seem to heal & find cures

When my doctors rung me to tell me it was vital i begun taking thyroxine because my thyroid was severely under, they nipped it in the bud&found the right solution

Wishing you all the very best

    With love to all

  • Hi Evalena,

Thank you for your kind response.  So sorry to hear about your mum- very sad that she helped nurse so many people but ignored her own health in the process.

Fingers crossed that it will be either nothing to worry about or something that they can treat/heal.

Thanks again for your supportive response.

    Best Wishes
