CT colonography

Hi there,

Im hoping someone here can offer me some advice. 

Last week I had a CT colonography. This is due to my bowel prolapsing. I have a weakened immune system and immune suppression. My recent hematology report’s are all very low. But my GP isn’t doing anything about it.  Anyway I have been having rectal bleeding on and off. I had a colonoscopy in 2017 that the BMI hospital I attended marked as clear. Even though when I came round from the sedation he said that he couldn’t see clearly as I was to backed up as I was the previous time. I’m having either constipation or the complete opposite and I’m never off the toilet. I’m a little confused as to why I’ve been sent to 2 surgeons and not a gastroenterologist. I also have a lump on the right hand side of my lower tummy. I have a lot of pain in my pelvis and hips especially. I’ve had stem cell treatment for Lyme disease 2017. But I’ve never had pain in my pelvis or hips before. I’m due to see the other surgeon on Thursday. But I’m unsure why I’m seeing corectorol surgeon’s instead of a gastroenterologist. Can a CT colonography give details of what’s happening with my bowels and hips?     Sorry to hear that you're continuing to deal with these health issues. 

    A colorectal surgeon is a Dr who specialises in the medical and surgical treatment of conditions that affect the lower digestive tract where as a gastroenterologist specialises in disorders of the GI tract. From the information that you've shared it sounds as if the team feel that your problems are more to do with your lower digestive tract which is possibly why you've been referred to the colorectal specialist. 

    CT (computed tomography) colonography is a test that uses CT scans to check the large bowel (colon) and back passage (rectum). It’s also called a virtual colonoscopy and you usually have this test to help find the cause of your symptoms.

    It sounds from your post as if you've quite a few questions about the tests you've been having, the results and the management of your condition. It might be worth writing all these down with you before your appointment on Thursday so that you can ask the Dr about these specific points.
