Can anyone relate. Itchy Nipple/Boobie question

I don't know where to start... so I went to the doctors just after my holiday in june due to an ache in the top left of my right breast, which mirrored into my back. He had a feel. Said he couldn't feel any lumps etc in any boobs and he suspected some kind of muscle damage. So I left it a couple if weeks, the ache was still there, intermittently. I saw a different doctor who I think could see I was anxious (I suffer with anxiety and health anxiety) and she has referred me to the breast clinic. This was last wednesday and I haven't got an appointment yet. Anyway... since then my nipple has started itching, not on the surface, its inside. I've had this before... a few times before actually, but it's never lasted this long. My nipple (to me) looks fine. It's just going red where im messing with it. It's not an itch as such, I feel like I have to pinch my nipple like a radio nob. If that makes sense. It's not red around it, theres no rash, pitting or anything that I can tell. I just can't get rid of this itch. I started taking evening primrose oil yesterday and I've bought some antihistamines. To no avail. I'm terrified that its something more sinister. I've read up on pagers and IBC (nor me or my doctor has found a lump) I'm going insane. I have 2 boys aged 3 and 10 and its consuming me. Has anyone else had this before???

  • I have had my appointment on tuesday at breast clinic.  Had nipple issues itching tender and shooting pains. I had cream for 2 weeks from gp. Second gp referred me straight away.  I would not leave it. Definitely go to the breast clinic.  I don't wish to worry you but mine was not good news.  It's better to get it checked out. Hopefully you will have good news.  I'm trying to keep positive as waiting for biopsy results but they have alread told me what they think it is from the mammogram.  Good luck.

  • Thank you for your reply longshaw1. I'm so sorry you haven't had the news you wanted. Did you have any other symptoms or was it just the nipple itch and soreness? I hope you get some quick results and you can get moving forward with any treatment you may need. Much love ♡ xxx

  • Hi Kelly j0

My user name is naff. Was sat in my car and picked it off a notice.  I wasn't even worried when I went to the clinic. Thought it was mastitis to start with.  Had fusidin cream for 2 weeks from one doc (symptoms were clear liquid and slight crustiness from nipple but couldn't even really see the liquid it just kept forming into the crustiness,  and also had a cracked nipple, sore/tender nipple/more red than normal and much more inverted.  Nipples were normally flat due to something that occurred historically but right breast was slightly inverted since breast feeding. This became much more so recently.  I also had itching and shooting pains).    Went back to other doc after symptoms came back after cream and he referred me to breast clinic. Was in complete shock at what I was told. They are experienced at what they look at on the mammogram. Just waiting for the type it is but they seem clear it's cancer.  He said it was a good job I had the symptoms cos may not have got it early.  Please don't leave it, best to get it checked.  Hope you go on okay.  I am just trying to keep busy. Glad i'm on holiday this week as couldn't deal with it at work.  Love Longshaw.  X

  • ♡♡♡ oh bless you. I suffer with anxiety and health anxiety so this is all blowing me away. I tend to stalk dr google all the time. I'll read and read the same things over and over again. I have been referred and my appointment is on the 12th August. It just seems like a lifetime away. I only have the itch which feels like its inside the nipple and redness of the nipple (I'm not sure if that's because I keep messing with it, squeezing it and checking it) or if it's a sign of the cancer. Apart from that, as far as I can see, I don't have anything else. I had breast pain but that come and goes. I've not had it all weekend and so far today. I had an ultrasound scan in 2016 as my tissue was dense. I'm 31 now so i don't know if I'll have a mammogram this time? All of my love and best wishes are being sent over to you AND you never know, it might not be what you think it is after all ♡♡♡ xxx

  • Yes. Hoping so. Good luck with yours. Hope you go on okay. Love Longshaw xx

  • Hi ladies how have you both got on in the long term? I have this problem which sounds the same. I have previously been diagnosed with stage 3 cancerous cells in my cervix so now I over protect myself however the itching is horrendous and I cannot relieve it at all? Have you been ok? X

  • Hi loz34

Sorry only just seen your post.  I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ and needed a mastectomy. I chose the shoulder natural tissue op and am off sick currently waiting for nipple reconstruction. Thankfully my lymph nodes came back clear and the breast reconstruction is loowing very good.  I have been following the physio to the letter and have been referred to the lymphadoema team for slight swelling to my arm which could also be axillary lymph node syndrome (symptoms are similar). Exercises are key to this and learning the massage wI'll also help.  Apart from that I am okay I've great supportive friends and family and for anyone going in hospital you will need adjustable shoulder strap dolly bags for your drains. Onward and upward!!

  • HI loz34. Hope you have got it checked out.  Best not to leave it. I felt a lump last year and had it checked  which did not show up in the mammogram I had then.  The lump went down after. But it was a good indicator that it was early onset as only 11 months ago. They say that it can have been in your system around 2 years plus when you find a lump.  I'm grateful that I didn't procrastinate and got it checked earlyish.  Good luck xx

  • Hi Kelly

How did you get on at your appointment on the 12th?  I know exactly what you mean with the feeling you are experiencing with your nipple.  I am having exactly the same thing ... I Have a feeling that seems to be behind my nipple, it cause me to have an urge to push it in or pinch it.
    hope you are well

  • Hi

I have had the itching sensation behind my nipple since March. Driving me crazy since! I Went to doctor in april and she referred me to a breast surgeon but because of Covid I might not be seen till sept /Oct.  I was afraid incase I was being dramatic and didnt want to trouble people or maybe it's a sign of menopause ? but after reading some comments here I decided to chase up with my doctor to re submit an appt request and mark it urgent.  I am worried but trying hard not to let people around me know until I know more.  Tried antihistamines and cortisone cream. Nothing helps.  I'm 45 now but had bleeding from the same breast when I was 20 and had a lump removed.. so my imagination is going a little mad if I'm honest.  Hope I get an appointment soon.
