Not had response to post. Just advised it's cancer

Not sure where to put this post. Nor had a reply. Would really help. Went on Tuesday this week to the breast clinic with what I thought was mastitis and also cracked nipple. I had a mammogram as routine and scan. It picked up changes since last year's mammogram.  They did the biopsy then and there. There is a cluster and single Dots of calcification. Consultant said experience shows from the pattern that he and radiographers think it is clearly cancer but waiting for biopsy results next Wednesday to find out what sort so yes they would say it before the biopsy results (I am still in shock). It's been suggested as pre cancer so may not need radiotherapy or chemo  but it will need removing and as it's in the nipple area they will take that away and due to having small breasts it will take most of my breast with it.  Right nipple became really more inverted over last 12 weeks - both nipples been flat since age 21 due personal trauma and needed surgery,  and breastfed years later but needed nipple shields to assist but struggled and now feel downhearted because of this. Feel I will have reconstruction after if the results are what they say.  I couldnt cope if i didnt i dont think.  I am obviously very worried and was in shock at first but seen my gp and his view is the biopsy is what I need to wait for. I am trying to keep busy.  Trying not to think of worst case scenario. Someone posted similar other day but can't find the post. I have had tags inserted to mark the areas pinpointed for surgery.

  • Hi Longshaw1,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about what you're going through at the moment. It sounds like you're doing all the right things in terms of thinking as positively as possible and keeping busy before you know more.

As your GP says, it's best to wait for definite results. Once you have those, you will have some clear next steps to take - and it sounds like you've already been thinking about how you might deal with any potential scenarios.

It's of course natural to be worried and the uncertainty is never nice. I'm glad it's now not too much longer to wait until you get your results.

Wishing you all the best - do let us know how you get on, if you would like to of course.
