Please read. Referred to Breast Clinic.

Hi, We came back from our family holiday in June and a few days later I felt pain around my shoulder blade... I also had pain in the breast and the mirrored each other. Anyway, I went to the doctor and he said suspected muscle damage and to give it a couple of weeks. He had a feel of both breasts and couldn't feel any lumps or thickening etc... I've still got the pain in both my back and breast (not an ouch pain, more just a niggle) my nipple has been a bit itchy, not to the point where it's gone red... I'm just aware of it now and again, more so when I've got no bra on or when I'm thinking about it. I suffer with health anxiety so my head is all over the place. I've been back today and I've had a referral to the breast clinic. I've read up on breast cancer, IBC & Pagets disease of the nipple and I'm so scared! I don't even know why I'm writing this as I don't know what I want to say... I'm just worried. I'm 31 with 2 boys. No known history of cancer or breast cancer in the family. I'm scared of leaving my babies!!!

  • I get why you’re scared. I had this last year. My nipple was pulling back when I raised my arm and then I got pain all down the side of one breast. Had a prod and found lumps. I was in tears going into the doctors, never mind when they referred me (even though I knew they would refer me). So much history of cancer in my family, including my mum dying at 47.

Had my appointment at the breast clinic. Staff were so nice and reassuring and respectful. Male sonographer but I never felt worried or nervous (other than being worried).

He said it looked like tissue that had detached, certainly nothing he was concerned about. Then saw the breast nurses ans they poked, prodded, laid me left, right, upside down, back to front, etc and told me that the pain was due to pulling the muscles between my rib cage.

Lumps are atill there although not as big, pain went within a few weeks as they said it did. All ok.

I’m sure you will have a similar story to tell someone else.

I had a huge black mole removed today which I’m now waiting on the biopsy results for - but I’m not worried. I will deal with it if it comes back as something that needs looking at, but otherwise I’m listening to the doctor who told me he’s not overly concerned but he’s wouldn’t like to leave it there.

You will always worry about leaving your kids. You’ve done the right thing getting it checked so even if you got what worst news, you’d also know you caught it as early as possible.

Keeping fingers crossed for no news is good news for you. Let us know how you get on. X

  • Thank you for your comment pretty_lush. I'm so glad everything was ok for you!!! Fingers crossed you get good news this time around too. I'm constantly checking over my breasts now. It's become a habit over the past few days. Annoyingly. I had an ultrasound 3 years ago because of a lump and I've even googled "had a ultrasound 3 years ago, how quick can breast cancer grow in that time" I'm driving myself insane. I have hours where I'm ok... and I feel a tiny bit optimistic (I've had the nipple itch a few times before over the years, just never this long) and I think "I've had it before, it's probably staying because I'm messing with it" then I think "ahhh but what if it's not, and that's why the pains are there now" swings and roundabouts! Let me know how you get on with your results! Fingers and toes crossed for you lovely ♡♡♡
