2 week referral to check for cancer

Hi, my husband had been referred on the 2 week urgent referral for investigations for LGI cancer. The letter has come through to attend colorectal surgery tomorrow. There is no prep information there for example not to eat or drink or stuff to take to clear him out so I am concerned this appointment isn’t actually to have the provide done.

does anyone know exactly what happens at this appointment and then what happens after that? The waiting is horrible

  • Hi there - sorry you are so worried, it's very difficult & as you know the waiting is awful.  I don't know about the procedure you mention but I can tell you what happened to me a few weeks ago which I hope will make you feel a bit reassured.

I had some horrible symptoms & my GP put me on the 2 week cancer pathway. So of course I was convinced I had it & sure I was going to die. I had lots of tests & all came back clear although I had to wait 2 weeks to get them. I didn't have it! You can imagine how relieved I was. However, before the tests my GP told me that 9 out of 10 people sent for these urgent tests come back clear. There's every chance then that your husband does NOT have cancer. He may have something else but something that can easily be fixed.

The waiting is hard I know, but the best thing to do for the time being, is to focus on that 9 out of 10 figure & just to keep busy & focus on doing all your normal activities. Don't let that nasty little worm call fear wiggle its way into your ear & spoil you lives.

Do hope this helps a bit. Let us know how you get on & all the best. x
