  • Hi Sarnal,

Welcome to the forum and I'm sory to hear that your Dad has been dealing with this health concern. It's understandable that you're both feeling worried at the moment.

Having a biopsy and MRI is a normal part of the testing procedure to find out why your Dad has a raised PSA and enlarged prostate. We've some information on our website here about tests.

I'm going to tag in [@woodworm]‍ and [@Billygoat]‍ who have both been through these kinds of tests. I'm sure that they'll pop along to say Hello! and offer some words of advice and support.

We also have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you can call to speak to if you think it would help. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for all the results after Dad's biopsy. Do keep in touch and let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks jenn

Hi sarnal I know it's easy to say but try not to worry his is still low and been checked, the biopsy is just to be on safe side, proststes can get a virus the same as anything else, or sometimes it's the food you ear, getting worried only makes things worse, we've all been there, wait till all things have been checked out, think of it that every thing is fine till you're told different, in stead of thinking the worst, straight away,, by the way my psa was 1581 when found that was over three years ago, best wishes.

    Billy

  • Hi Samal

Your dads PSA is still pretty low Mine was 70 when I was first diagnosed and the treatment worked very well for me.

When I had the dre, I was told my prostate was lumpy. I was put on Hormone therapy for two year and had 37 radiotherapy treatments and my psa ended up at the lowest they can measure at 0.01.

Enlarged prostate is treatable as is cancer should it turn out to be the C word. asyou can see from my story.

As Billy has said, worrying will not make it any better. Try and think positive. I know it is hard but treatments for prostate problems have come a long way in the past few years. Wishing you both all the very best, Brian
