Low grade fever for 3 weeks that isn't an infection

18/M

I've been suffering from a low grade fever of around 37.3C to 37.5C for the past few weeks.  I've been to a GP and at first he told me it was anxiety and gave me some meds. I didn't get much better so I went to the GP again, who gave me some different meds, and after taking those, everything but the fever was pretty much fixed, aside from some occasional aching and headaches. I went to the GP again today, and he tweaked the meds again, but still doesn't really know why I still have a fever.  I had a CBC blood test, and the results came out fine, and the GP says the blood test shows I don't have inflammation.

I've taken even more meds and the fever still hasn't broken yet, it hasn't gotten any worse or any better.  I also occasionally feel light headed, and my muscles often twitch, but that could be because of the medicine that's supposed to make you fatigued.

I'm getting really worried becuase I still don't know where the fever is coming from, all I know is it isn't from an infection, which is freaking me out even more because i'd rather get an infection since they're easy to treat.  I'm thinking that i've gotten cancer and I don't know what to do.  I don't know if I should schedule another appointment with the GP or like get a full body MRI scan to make sure I don't have any tumors.

  • Hi.

Sorry to bother you now but I am going through proper bad health anxiety now. I have exactly same symptoms and a low grade fever of 37.3-37.5 is there from the last two months now. Blood tests, CBC, urine test all came out fine.
I wanted to know has your temperature gone back to normal and what caused you the low grade fever.

I will look forward to your reply. Thanks

  • Hi all,

I've just come across this thread and I'm going through the same thing. I've had a constant low grade fever for 8 weeks between 37.4-38C, terrible fatigue, joint and bone pain, extremely painful glands, loss of appetite, constant nausea, vomiting, weakness/dizziness, however my bloods have all come back "fine", only showing some inflammation and a minor drop in WBC within 2 weeks of testing. Other than that nothing else has been done despite me crying and begging for help. I have an "urgent" scan on my glands in my neck because of the pain but they were unable to book an appointment so it will likely be another 3-4 weeks. Nothing has happened in the last 8 weeks and I feel utterly hopeless. I just don't know what to do. I can barely do anything myself without help from my mother. I'm so scared and just feel like nobody will listen to me or take me seriously. I feel like I can barely keep going like this, I just feel so incredibly ill, I spend all day in bed and can't even as much as read a book because my symptoms are so bad.

I've just completely lost hope :(

I hope that you are all doing better now? Or have at least had some answers.

  • Hi

Thats so sad to hear. I think you should call your gp again and tell them that your fever is causing you anxiety. I still have elevated body temperature and I'm very worried about it as I cannot do anything myself.

I hope you get well soon.

  • Hi im suffering with fevers too had all tests possible including pet ct scan still no clue why. Did u find out why? Is it hormone? Anxiety? Its terrible hope your ok x

  • how you doing I get the same did you find out why?

    X

  • No Ive had no answer. It settled a bit but now its back with a vengeance!

How is everyone on this thread doing? Has anyone had an answer or did things settle?

For me I have had this over 15 months! I wake from my sleep burning up, sweating but my whole body feels cold and I'm shivering. My temp goes up to about 37.8 when this happens. I begged to see a haematogist last year after googling and reading everything about lymphoma!! I seen the haematologist, they did lots of bloods and a chest xray. All was normal and they were happy to sign me off. I tried to get on with life. The shaking/shivering still happened on and off. I went to the doctor a few times over the year and she was sure it was anxiety. I will admit I do have chronic health anxiety, but I find it very hard to believe that anxiety is making me wake from my sleep with a low grade fever and shivering! Things did settle down a bit for a month or two. But now its back and really bad again!! I wake a few nights every week like this. If I fall asleep I shiver and shake and it stops when I wake up! Its so weird and driving me insane! Ive been googling like crazy (which I know I shouldnt) and I'm very concerned this is undiagnosed lymphoma for over a year  I contacted the doctor last week and told her I will not settle until I have a CT scan and wont accept anxiety as an answer! She is currently emailing the haematologist for his opinion. He emailed back yesterday asking if I had anything else like weightloss, itching etc. He basically said he doesnt want to put me through the radiation of a scan unless necessary. So I'm now waiting on his reply and hope to god he will give me the scan! Im going insane in the meantime googling and driving myself mad with worry

  • Possible need to ask for B12 deficiency tests

  • Hi, was wondering if anyone found out what was causing these fevers.  Also, do you guys have low grade fever all day, or just at night time?

for past two months, I've had normal temp in the morning, but late afternoon and evening, it spikes to around 37.8 for a bit.  It goes back to normal by morning.

ive had swollen neck nodes for a year and a half.  Last year, ultrasound showed likely reactive and benign.  I also had a PET/CT done that was normal.

the only think abnormal is my ESR Sed rate and CRP which is a bit high.  They just tested me last week and it's still a bit high so I don't know what to do

  • Hi

have you had a test for covid or covid antibodies - a lot of people getting low grade intermittent fever due to covid. I had it for 3 months or so - plus other symptoms but no cough etc - maybe a thought

  • Hi

have you had a test for covid or covid antibodies - a lot of people getting low grade intermittent fever due to covid, I found this out when joining a slack group and it was the main thing in common ppl testing positive with a whole gamete of other symptoms and not always the cough or high fever . I had it for 3 months or so - plus other symptoms but no cough etc - maybe a thought
