Low grade fever for 3 weeks that isn't an infection

18/M

I've been suffering from a low grade fever of around 37.3C to 37.5C for the past few weeks.  I've been to a GP and at first he told me it was anxiety and gave me some meds. I didn't get much better so I went to the GP again, who gave me some different meds, and after taking those, everything but the fever was pretty much fixed, aside from some occasional aching and headaches. I went to the GP again today, and he tweaked the meds again, but still doesn't really know why I still have a fever.  I had a CBC blood test, and the results came out fine, and the GP says the blood test shows I don't have inflammation.

I've taken even more meds and the fever still hasn't broken yet, it hasn't gotten any worse or any better.  I also occasionally feel light headed, and my muscles often twitch, but that could be because of the medicine that's supposed to make you fatigued.

I'm getting really worried becuase I still don't know where the fever is coming from, all I know is it isn't from an infection, which is freaking me out even more because i'd rather get an infection since they're easy to treat.  I'm thinking that i've gotten cancer and I don't know what to do.  I don't know if I should schedule another appointment with the GP or like get a full body MRI scan to make sure I don't have any tumors.

  • Oh no you haven’t you have helped honestly. Well I’ve had that for like 2 years just not the low grade fever. Which had only been present for 1 month now. Ps I’m 26 so not so young lol like my doctor thinks hahaa. Have you had any follow up or anything this time around. How’s everyone getting on in regards to test and stuff

  • After the final scan we don't have like follow up scans really unless there's a cause for concern. We just have check ups where they ask "any un explained weight loss, night sweats or fever" as they tend to be the big three for symptoms, I just had a check up a couple of weeks ago but didn't have a fever then so didn't mention it. Even now when I ring up they don't seem overly fussed. If it was back it's a slow cancer that you can have for years until its serious so I'm not worried about imminently dying lol more I just want to know so I can get more treatment and have it over with.

  • Oh typical for your temperature to increase after your appointment. Have they offered you any appointments for reassurance or anything.

Well i I had to call my doctor again as I needed to chase up my sick note and I have just found out that I have been referred to infection disease however when I tried to book an appointment no appointments available!!

I have anothet telephone appointment tomorrow morning so let’s see how that goes xx

  • Hi I got my bloods report today and everything is normal. Now I’m even more stressed. I have no idea what’s causing this fever. GP has prescribed me antibiotics for oral infection even though my bloods show no infection. I don’t know what to do.
  • Hey.. have they offered or discussed any other avenues they may want to explore. At one point my GP did wanna give me antibiotics for gastroenteritis but I refused as I know that was not the case. Just speak to them and say what next what’s the plan. What has your temperature been xx

  • Hi.

my temperature is between 37.2 - 37.7 from four weeks

  • I have had a fever for months now, also worried it was covid, I had 3 throat swabs and an antibody test with an unclear reading and the test negative.

I had a pet scan 1 week ago and now waiting for results. I did have fevers last year but had meningitis and pericarditis then the fevers went winter 19 and now they are back. This time persistent between 37.5- 38 and my normal temp was always really low 36.3 ear temp as I used to chart my temp when I was trying to conceive so this is very high for me. My skin is on fire. My heart is tachycardic.

had bloods all ok infact perfect! Which is worse!

So they did a pet as want to know whats going on!

One thing my infections specialist told me is that covid 19 gives a negative result in 30 PERCENT!! That is very high!! And I have read every where about people getting covid and having fevers for weeks/months and still ongoing for hundreds of thousands of people.

Also people can have negative  antibody results if there immune didn’t build immunity to it!

All i know is I had a sore throat, bronchitis and fever March! I was in close contact with someone  that was confirmed to have coronavirus and died in hospital from it, the 6 days later I get a temp, bronchitis like symptoms , I get a test for covid 3 times once a week after my initial temp. Negative.

I think i could have covid and am just testing negative negative because I was with a confirmed case, I had a fever 6 days after confirmed case, tight chest etc. That passes and the fever has remained and never gone but I also got a rash (covid 19 can cause rashes), and now iv been diagnosed with pots so everytime I stand my heart goes to 150bpm!  Funny enough I read a Twitter account with someone who’s test was positive saying it’s nlw caused prolonged fever and pots! And then there were thousands saying the same!!

So so I think some people here may actually have it especially considering the time line saying they have had it months which would be around March the peak of the virus. Sorry for rambling.. just happy to know I’m not the only one

  • Hi

I hope you get everything fine in your pet scan. When did your fever start? And does it go back to normal anytime?

mine goes back to normal at night but even when thermometer shows normal i feel that my body is burning from inside. Its been more than 6 weeks now and there is no improvement I am really anxious now and I know my anxiety gonna make things even worse.

  • Sorry to jump on but I'm worried about a fever myself!

I'm a 25 year old female and for the past week I've been getting a low grade fever sometimes. It doesn't stay up for long, the longest it's stayed up for is around 50 minutes apart from today it's been an hour and a half but it's only gone up since having a bath. Sometimes it will go up to 37.8 from me just sitting there but after about 5 minutes it goes back down to 37.6/37.7(my thermometer normal range is up to 37.7). It will happen when I've been cleaning too I.e hoovering, tidying etc but once I sit down it'll come down again. The other times it's happened is when I've walked to the shop(it was a warm day) and it went up to 38.2 but within 10 minutes of me sat down it started to lower again. It will probably jump up to 37.8/37.9 a couple, maybe 3 times a day but like I said doesn't last for more than a few minutes, odd time it may go on for half an hour or so but that's probably once in a day, other times it only lasts a few minutes. I've kept a log of my temperature for the last few days and if I add up the length of time it goes up, it's no more than an hour to an hour and a half in a whole day. I never have any issues with it at night time or through the night or even early morning, just purely in the late morning and afternoon time. Is this normal or is this something to worry about? I remember last month one afternoon I felt a bit warm and I took my temperature and it was 37.8 so I don't know if it's just normal for me or if it's something to worry about? I've never felt ill with it, just hot when it happens sometimes. I've had bloods done in the last few weeks which were normal and also had a chest x-ray which was clear(was for another reason) but everything was fine. Is what I'm experiencing just the natural response in body temperature or not? I suffer with really bad health anxiety and googling has not helped! I'm only 25 and I'm fearing I have something bad wrong with me.

  • Hi

how are you feeling now? Is your temperature back to normal?
