Waiting for results of mole removal

Hi everyone,

i had 2 moles removed 2 weeks ago and one looked suspicious the doctor said. It was flat and uneven  about 8mm in size. They said expect up to 6 weeks for the results however I had a phone call  from the hospital yesterday making me an appointment to go and see them next week.if it was nothing surely I would of heard by letter. Am starting to worry a little now, do you think this is skin cancer with them wanting to see me?

  • Hi,

Please don't get over anxious about being recalled earlier. Most dermatologists prefer to see their patients face to face when giving biopsy results, whether the news be good or bad, so results by letter or telephone are very rare. Also, the 6 week appointment you were given is the norm as it's coming up to the school summer holidays. This is to take into account the usual delays with histology and then any holiday leave that is being taken by the dermatology staff. However, if the results come back without any delay and the dermatology clinic is running with full staff, the consultant will call a patient in earlier - there is no point keeping patients waiting if they have the appointment slots earlier. So, there is a chance your results may still be fine, just back earlier than anticipated. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)
