Dreading my results day!!

hi, I’m new to this so I hope my post makes sense.  I was diagnosed with high grade breast cancer which had spread to 1/33 lymph nodes nearly 8 years ago....after mastectomy, lymph node clearance, chemo and herceptin I was given the all clear. I was discharged from clinic and was having yearly mammograms which have all been fine. Roughly 2 months ago I started to have pain in my back. I went back to my breast care nurses and explained that I was feeling tired and had constant back pain, that day I had bloods and was booked for an isotope bone scan......I went for scan last Thursday and they spent extra time scanning my chest area?? I was contacted on Monday by breast care nurse to come and see my original surgeon this Thursday, she asked if somebody could come with me....I’m so scared to go and face the results. I don’t think if it was good news I would be seen so quickly. I’ve not told my children 12yrs to 21,as I don’t want to scare them unnecessarily. Does anybody have any advice? I’m so glad I found this site and reading all your brave stories really helps. X

 

  • Hi Kirti and welcome to the forum.

    I was just reading your post and noticed that you were seeing your original surgeon today. I'm not sure what time your appointment was but I hope it went o.k and your fears were not confirmed. 

    Do come back and let us know what happened when you can. We'll have our fingers crossed you got good news but if it wasn't favourable then our members will be here to support you.

    Thank you so much for responding, I went to clinic today and the surgeon explained that the bone scan results had showed a large area of contrast on the right side of my face and they wanted me to go for an MRI of head. She asked had I ever had sinusitis? I said no but a very bad abscess in my tooth causing my eye to swell shut recently, she said this would be the cause so no MRI needed for that. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so relieved, I had totally convinced myself it was all happening again. Small area of bone on arm needs an MRI but she didn’t seem concerned. I’m 38 and lost my mum to bowel cancer recently, as I’m a single parent I’ve never really dealt with the grief I have over my MUM’S passing and always try to put a brave face on for my 4 kids. I’ve been on both sides as the cancer patient and the cancer carer and       as I’m sure you all know both are life changing. Thank you for thinking of me...it really means a lot xx

    Thanks Chrissie, I wish I’d known about this site sooner as you all seem like such lovely, brave people. I’ve been on both sides patient/carer so hopefully can be of help to someone else on here. X

    And I lost my mum when I was 36 ... so know how hard that is .. but I'm sure she will be looking over you now .. when I was diagnosed,  I found feathers everywhere,  even in my bra .. the day I got the news after my masectomy that it was low risk, they stopped ... then we found them around my sister who has dementure... so just because we can't see them, doesn't mean they are not around ...

    You will find the more you talk about her, the more it gets copeable... although it's sad remembering .. it will help .. remember the funniest best memory you have of her .. relive it slowly ... word for word... how it made you feel .. untill it brings a smile ...

    Coz that's what I'd want my son and granddaughter to be if this cancer takes me .. to remember the good times .. or ill come back and kick his butt ... ; ))

    And yes we are all on our journey .. but we all hold each other up ... and I've found I get far more back then I give ..  they have helped me through my low days ...

    So remember you did this once ... your a great roll model, for those that only hear sad stories of cancer .. and you've been on both sides .. so you have empathy for both .. it's like a family on here, where everyone can join ... so you feel free any time ... I'm here most days ... none of us are alone on here ...
