Random fevers, really worried

I have got myself worried sick from googling too much! (I have chronic health anxiety)

About 2 months ago I would randomly wake at night feeling shaky, nearly like I was too hot/cold at the same time. It was weird but only happened randomly so I never thought too much of it.

2 weeks ago I woke hot and sweaty and my temp was 38.2. I went to the doctor and she said my tonsils were swollen with puss on them and I def had tonsillitis (even though I had no throat pain) she put me on antibiotics. She took bloods and a throat swab. Bloods were normal and the swab was clear. Since then I dont see any puss on my throat and dont have any other symptoms apart from I keep getting random low grade fevers! I seem to go a few days with no fever then it comes back again, it makes me feel so uncomfortable and keeps me awake at night.

Of course google has scared me silly! I cant see a doctor for a few days and I'm trying to keep it together but its hard. Im currently on holiday with my kids and this is all I can think of. Everything I read online points to random fevers being a really bad sign. Has anyone experienced this? Im so scared :(

  • If you need someone to talk to at any stage write to me here or message me okay! :) what age is your daughter? My youngest is 2.

Yes it is warm, do you sleep with a thermomoter beside you or am I the only crazy one that does that haha. If I wake during the night I keep checking it!

  • Shes 4. Thank you, no just i know as i am sweating. I go get it and check once then put a cold flannel on my head and try and get some sleep. Im here too. Try a fan with ice near it. Its like air conditioning. Works a treat

    Hi Musicismylife,

I am sorry to hear that you still haven't got an accurate diagnosis. I just want to wish you all the very best for your appointment tomorrow and, I hope that this will begin to point you in the right direction.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks, more bloods testing different things, he doesnt think i have lymphoma as i have no lumps. Have a appt in 4 weeks. Have an ultrasound tommorow to check my spleen. No diagnosis yet. He was wondering wether its something else like a imflamatory related. Trouble is he said all my tests come up as borderline. For example normal wbc is between 4 and 10 mine is floating around 10.1 to 12.5 not enough for infection but right on or slightly over higher threshold. Same with my crp and esr. So if all negative im being referred to rheumatologist however, a long wait for that. Plus side i met a lady who has most of thr same symtoms as me also told not lymphoma today as is having further bloods and is being referred for rheumatologist. Guesd we will see. I thought i was crazy making up things that arnt there. Glad someone else has same issues as me but upset i can see it dragging on a few more months :(

  • Oh no I'm sorry. Its unfair how long things do be drawn out isnt it. At least the ultrasound is tomorrow, hopefully that will come back normal and you dont have to wait long for results. Its good they think its not lymphoma, just hard on you not knowing whats going on :(

Glad you met someone else who has similar issues and she was also told the same as you. Is the other woman getting fevers aswell?

  • Yes fevers, no lumps, itching all over, chest pain she had the same. I have weight loss and flank pain left sided also. He said if we dont phone you assume they are normal and ill book you in for an appt in 4 weeks time to see what we will do next.

  • Isnt it crazy how you can have so many symptoms that would make you worried sick about having a certain illness and it doesnt mean you have it! Doesnt help google pointing towards that too! How are you feeling now? Are you a bit more settled?

    Hi Musicismylife,

I'm glad to hear that it's not lymphoma, but sorry to hear that you are still no closer to a diagnosis. Here's hoping that your ultrasound doesn't show up anything untoward tomorrow.

It must have been heartening to meet someone with the same symptoms as you today. However, if given the choice, which none of us get, I would rather be under the care of rheumatology than oncology.

I know that this means more waiting for you, but you will get an answer in the end.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi musicismylife, did you get the ultrasound today? I hope that went okay and you dont have long to wait for the results.

I had a fever again last night. Was talking to my doctor today and she is referring me to heamotology. Unsure if shes put it as urgent or not. She said I could be waiting around a month
