Please help, found painless lump at side of tongue *updated*

Hi all, 

Sorry its my first time on here, I need some help as I am going out of my mind!

About 3 weeks ago I found a lump at the side of my tongue at the back (could of been there a lot longer), it was painless and not too big so I wasnt worrying much, then on the other side between the top and bottom teeth at the back I developed a ulcer which is white and painful and hurts when I'm eating.

Tonight I've checked the lump and it's gone bigger and still painless and it's hard when I touch it, I'm going out of my mind with worry. I am female 24 years old and a smoker. I do drink socially. The last few months I have drank more than usual as I was away and then had alot of stress going on.

I am worried it could be cancer.

I am going to ring the GP in the morning but I am so frightened and my anxiety is going through the roof. I hope someone could help me please.

*Update * this morning I have woken up and found a painful lump on the cheek near the ulcer looking one and it's big and I can't close my teeth together as I catch it and it hurts. Any advice please

    Hi Steph

    I know its easier said than done but try to calm and not be so anxious.

    You said youve had a lot of stress recently, that may explain the ulcer. Most ulcers clear by 10 days but if it is there after 2 weeks then its time to get it checked. Dentists are well trained in mouth sores and can refer you if they think you require futher investigation.

    You noticed a painless lump on your tongue 3weeks ago. Instead of worrying yourself sick please go get it checked out.

    The bump on your cheek in the morning is most likely you have bitten down on it in your sleep. We can be very anxious in sleep as well as awake. Rinsing with warm salty water will sooth this and the ulcer too.

    You mentioned that you smoke. Is there any possibility you would consider giving it up. You are only 24yrs so its not too late to undo. I have relatives that have been heavy smokers for over 50yrs if you could only see the state they are in you would stop.
