Lymphoma investigation

Hi wondering if anyone can share any experiences. I have had enlarged lymph nodes in my neck for about 3 months now after having strep throat. I just put this down to having an infection however now I am well I thought I should get them investigated as they remain enlarged. I have been to see a haematologist today who is concerned it could be lymphoma and wants to investigate further with a CT scan and biopsy. I am feeling well otherwise apart from being a little tired (but I have been working lots). I am really anxious whilst waiting and wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Thanks

  • Hi Ash,

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about the concerns that have led you here.

Understandably this time of waiting for tests and not really knowing what is going on can be very difficult. It's no wonder that you're feeling really anxious about things.

It sounds as if the consultant wants to get to the bottom of what has caused these lymph nodes to be enlarged and so ordering the scan and biopsy is a natural progression of things. Unfortunately until you've had those tests and the results are back no one will be able to tell you for certain what's going on.

Although it's really easy for me to say, try to keep busy and take each day as it comes. This will help you to not think too far in advance and help keep your anxiety in check.

If you'd like to talk to someone about what's been happening then we have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you can call. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040. Sometimes being able to talk to someone and get things off your chest can also be helpful.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for some news. Keep in touch.

    Best wishes,
