Paravertebral Cystic Lesion on Spine

Hello

For about 3/4 years I’ve been having pins & needles/loss of sensation in my ring and pinky fingers on both hands. It started when I was pregnant, and so the midwives, clearly no time to consider it, dismissed it as Carpal Tunnel and told me to wear wrist splints... never helped, and so am still having on going investigations. Also when I was pregnant, I was diagnosed with stage 1 Melanoma, which was removed and I was told I had clear margins so should just be vigilant and get checked regularly (every 6mths - lots of moles).

I was referred to a rheumatologist after having an MRI, who told me that there is a paravertebral cystic lesion on my spine, just behind where my bra line sits. I thought, that must be the reason I’m getting the parathesia in my hands, which is now also happening to my feet and also getting phantom water trickles down my legs, along with sharp electric type shocks down my spine. The rheumatologist said that the symptoms weren’t related to the cyst and that if I hadn’t had melanoma in the past, he wouldn’t have bothered sending me for an MRI with contrast, which is what I’m currently waiting on...

Does anyone have any similar experience or symptoms? If it is a tumour on my spine, is surgery the first port of call? Or would they not know for certain simply from the MRI with contrast?

  • Welcome to the forum Gwymbo although I'm sorry to read why you've joined us.

This must be a very anxious time for you but hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will pop to share their experiences with you.

Unfortunately we can't answer the medical side of things but do make a note of these questions and take them with you to your next appointment as the team looking after you may be able to offer some insight.

Wishing you all the best for your MRI Gwymbo.

    Kind regards,

  • So the consultant who referred me for the 2nd MRI called me, he said they were unable to determine what it is...

so he is referring me to Neuro Surgery...?

He said they was no change in the lesion from the 1st MRI which is positive.

So am still in the dark. Unsettling to not have someone tell me exactly what it is.

    Does anyone have any advice?

  • Good morning, I hope you are well.

I am interested to know any update on how things have gone for yourself please as you literally describe what I am going through to a T, I also have urinary incontinence at times and suffer from extreme fatigue.

This has been ongoing about 5 to 6 years & have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia but I also have a left paravertebrael indeterminate lesion. So this is all quite concerning.

Thank you for taking g the time to read xx

  • Hi Tink and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I hope you don't mind me stopping by but I noticed you were hoping to hear back from Gwymbo.

Unfortunately they haven't been on the forum in a while and this discussion was last active 4 years ago so there's a chance you may not get a reply.

I really hope that won't be the case but if that does happen then do feel free to start your own discussion about this or reach out to other members on more recent and active discussions you find about this topic on the forum.

    Kind regards,
