Hi all
This is my first post here. Just got a letter for an appointment for suspected gynaecological cancer appointment, which is scheduled in 1.5 weeks.
I'm a foreigner - despite living in the UK for almost 8 years, I had not had many major encounters with the healthcare professionals (only been to see a GP for a few times, in 8 years). So you can probably imagine my anxiety for this upcoming appointment.
I had irregular bleeding for about 6 months by now. At first I put it down as ovulation bleeding (and the timing matched), but every month it lasted 5-7 days, which I guess was unusual. Also experienced persistent abdominal pain on the left side during the mid-cycle bleeding as well as before periods. After 3 GP visits, STI screening, swab tests, smear tests I was referred to an ultrasound, during which they discovered that both of ovaries are enlarged (more so for the left one by about 4cm) - though my GP said it is not conclusive that these are cysts? Then there was the blood test, and an abnormally high CA125 (77).
I know ovarian cancer is rare at my age (28), and don't think I have many other symptoms. However, I can't help but to worry (an appointment under the name suspected cancer obviously doesn't help). I am hoping to find someone who has similar experience. And it would be great if someone can give me some advice.
