Lump in armpit

Hi,

I’ve been to my GP today after I found a lump in my armpit. He’s referred for further tests. Both my grandmas had breast cancer, although one survived. I also used to smoke. I’m absolutely terrified.

He said he didn’t think it was anything sinister but was referring just in case.  But now I’m thinking don’t they always say that so you don’t worry. He did say it would be classed as a cancer referral but that was normal under the circumstances.

I have no one to ask about what to expect when I go to the clinic. What will they do?

Thanks.

  • Hi Woodpet

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some health concerns at the moment. It's normal to feel like you do at the moment.

Every year thousands of women are referred to breast clinics across the country to have lumps and bumps checked out. The vast majority of people who are seen at a breast clinic will not have breast cancer. However, it’s still important to attend your breast clinic appointment so you can be fully assessed.

There's some good information about what to expect at a breast clinic appointment that I've linked for you here

If you'd like to chat to one of our nureses ahead of your appointment then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) and I'm sure that they'll be able to offer you some reassurance.

    I hope this helps.
