Ovarian cyst

hi, I have just joined and hoping there is someone out there who can offer some advice/guidance.

Last week I ended up in a&e with severe abdominal pains on one side and into my back. Initially the doctors thought it was appendicitis. I was sent for an ultrasound scan and they found an 11cm cyst on my ovary.

Due to the pain it was causing I was booked in to have it removed tomorrow. I had ca125 test which was 27, so within normal range but on the higher side. They said the cyst was a dermoid cyst.

This afternoon I had a call to say that they are cancelling the operation and want me to have an MRI scan first.

This has sent my mind into overdrive - especially spending time looking up everything online. I am so scared it’s cancer and they aren’t telling me.

They are calling tomorrow, hopefully with a scan date.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? How did it turn out? I’m terrified...

  • Hey,

so it hasn’t happened to me myself but my best friend was in the same situation as you - and my coach in work was the same - little bit smaller cyst only by 3cm but right off the bat they said they would remove it and changed their mind to do an MRI - two weeks after the MRI the surgery was rescheduled and it was removed.

So yes, they may be checking to make sure it’s not cancerous because if it is and it’s spread (it isn’t and it hasn’t so just stop your overthinking there) they would want to put a plan in place before they operating.

But neither of these had any issues at all. It’s just percations they are taking.

So try to take deep breaths and relax. You will be okay.

Keep me updated on how things go.

    I know you’ll be fine.

    Xoxo

  • Thank you. That’s reassuring to know.

Ive seen a few people post with similar experiences on here but then haven’t updated what happened after. I assume they are ok and that’s why they didn’t come back. Hope that’s the reason anyway .

Hope your friend is ok now and recovered well.

Really hoping and praying for the same outcome.

Someone close to us had the same things but the opposite outcome and they have now passed away - which is at the front of our minds every time I speak to anyone about it and has made us worry more.

Thanks again for replying- I really appreciate it xx
