Is it routine to have a ct thorax for diagnosis of ovarian c

Hi this has probably been asked before but I am going out my mind with worry and probably reading more in to things than there is. I have recently had post menopausal bleeding so I went to my gp no other symptoms and see myself as fit and well gp examined me and sent me for a ultrasound which I got a call that day to say they had a cancellation and then a call that night from my go to say something had been found  a solid mass and I need a 2 week referral. So my first thought is it must be really bad to get things done that quick though my gp did also say that he didn’t expect to have the scan that soon.  I did get my referral within the 2weeks and saw the gynaecologist who told me a had solid mass  greater than 10cm which they think are from my ovary he examined and attempted to take a sample but  was unable as the mass was fixed and solid  their words? I would need bloods as my gp hadn’t done any and a ct scan which I expected they did say I would then be discussed at MDT so does this mean the ultra sound said there was cancer ? I did ask them if it was cancer they said it could be  surely if they saw it ok the ultrasound they would have to say wouldn’t they ?  There was talk of a nurse specialist who I haven’t met. Again I have received the scan through quickly so greatful to the NHS. But this has caused more questions and worries as it is for a ct abodmen pelvis and thorax it is the thorax part I am worried about reading information and national guidelines they only do this if there is clinical indication of  metasis !!!! Does this mean I have advanced cancer and this could be seen from the ultra sound or is it a routine test that they do? I have gone over ever eventuality and worse case  going through my head and no one I could ask these questions too ? Does anyone have any similar experience ? Sorry for the long post took me two days to build the courage up post. I have accepted i may have cancer but never that it was wide spread ??

  • Welcome to the forum Crossedfingers although I'm sorry for the reason you've joined us.

Unfortunately no-one here is medically qualified to answer these questions so you'll have to hang on in there a little bit longer until your medical team have carried out all the tests they need to, to provide you with the answers you are seeking.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will pop by soon to share their experiences with you but you're more than welcome to talk things through with our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
