Normal CA125

I have always had a dermoid ovarian cyst which has been monitored. Last years scan was unchanged along with a normal CA125.

I felt a lump out of the blue in my stomach last week - no symptoms and infact I am healthy apart from some leg pain from a dodgy disc in my back.

The GP thought it was large and sent me to the hospital for a scan and they have described a large complex cyst (where the old one used to be !) suspcious of ovarian malignancy. I am only 47 ! I have a mirena coil in so I do not think I have started menaupause. The cyst is huge 13cms by 14cms by 12 cms. They say there is some calcification in there. My other ovary is fine, kidneys are fine and no ascites in there.

They sent me home told me they were going to do further tests on my blood and theN discus me in MDT plus a CT scan.

The MDT does not meet until this Thursday and I am in a terrible state worrying. They told me an oncology nurse would contact me but I have not had a confirmed diagnosis.

I called the GP and they checked my blood results and my CA125 is still normal, my pancreas tumour marker is normal and so are all my other blood tests hb etc. The only tiNy bit raised was my bowel tumour marker but the gp said that could be incidental as there is Crohns disease in my family and my HB is totally normal.

This morning  received a CT scan date next week and the liquid to drink - have starting panicking even more they they think it is cancer even though CA125 is normal,

I am an ex nurse and midwife, which knowing too much is not helping.

Some advice would be apprciated

  • Hi Neathgirl and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry about the worries the new cyst is causing but it's encouraging to see you've had a lot of normal and clear results from the other tests that have been carried out.

I know the MDT is meeting today so I just wanted to let you know we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

Do let us know what they say when you hear back and good luck with your CT scan next week.

    Kind regards,
