3rd Neck lump biopsy pending

After having a fine needle and surgical biopsy both return inconclusive I have been told that I'll be needing a third one, either on the lump in my neck or the mass in my chest. I had an appointment with my haematologist today who told me that the reason the surgical biopsy was inconclusive was because the surgeon didn't remove the ANY of the lymph node - what!? Basically, the surgeon (at another hospital) took tissue from around the lymph node but didn't actually take any of the node, so a diagnosis wasn't possible. This is so frustrating to me and I feel as though I'm getting further away from the truth. I've been told its most likely lymphoma as I have the mass in my neck and chest yet now the surgeon didn't even remove the thing they were supposed to? The haematologist had given instructions for the whole node to be taken, and instead tissue from around it was which was around 2mm in size - basically nothing. Very frustrated and feel let down ... next step is another biopsy and a PET scan.

  • Hi sparksfly,

This sounds incredibly frustrating. I know it's difficult when you build yourself up for an appointment so it must be disappointing that they weren't able to get when they needed.

Try to keep positive about the process if you can, and hopefully as soon as you get some proper answers it will help to make things a little easier, including next steps.

I hope you don't have too long to wait for your next appointment and before you find out more.

Do keep us posted with how you get on, if you would like to of course.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
