1cm calcium area on magnified mammogram

hi all

i had a mammogram 2 weeks ago which resulted in me getting a magnified mammogram on Friday which at the breast clinic was advised I would need a mammogram biopsy done within next couple of weeks as I had 1cm calcium area which could be innocent but if it wasn’t they would cut the area out.

Nothing showed up on ultrasound or does this not mean anything.

I have previously had a cyst diagnosed and biopsy about 9 years ago and it was just a cyst.

About 3 months ago my vitamin d levels were really low was put on 3 tablets a day and I was also put on 5mg of folic acid a day too.

Has anyone had this too and could they be linked in anyway that could relate to being cancer.

Am so worried and know I need to wait on biopsy just wondered if anyone been in same position.

  • Just wanted to stop by and say hello Hunter2104,

In some cases multiple tests are needed to make sure nothing's been missed so try not to worry as you won't know for sure until the tests are complete.

    I hope they go ok.

  • Hi thank you for posting.

I called mammogram department today and they said it has been put down as routine and non urgent as it likely to be benign. That is what radiologist has reported but referral been accepted to go ahead with the mammogram biopsy unfortunately there a 3-4 week waiting list so not ideal but a bit more relaxed they don’t seem concerned.

However I am still niggling the fact that I have got these low calcium levels that can cause higher risk of cancer and the fact my mums mum had ovarian cancer which can be linked to breast cancer so all juggling around in my mind. Scared something getting missed.

But I suppose just have to wait and see.

    Thanks for replying
