Mammogram Recall

Hi, I had a routine mammogram on Tuesday and today received a recall for further tests.  I called and spoke to the breast care nurse who got my pack and told me that there was an area that may have been caused by the breast flesh being folded over.  Have you heard of this?  I was given the impression that there wasn’t anything to worry about but of course I am.

  • Hi,

I was called back after my first mammogram and was told it was quite common. I had some calcifications removed and tested. It was nothing and they put a marker in where they had been. Try not to worry too much about it. I go now with the expectation that I will be called back. Good luck, let us know how things work out.

  • Hi Laura,

Thanks for that.  I have heard that it is very common for recalls following a first mammogram and so pleased you were ok.  I think Imwas so surprised really as I had an emergency open gallbladder removal and the day after I came out of hospital my husband was taken into hospital so I wasn’t really thinking about my mammogram.  I have had one recall in the past but they said when they contacted me it was because they didn’t capture all the breast.  This is different and I wondered if they tell everyone it is folded flesh to keep us from worrying too much.

  • Hi,

I really don't think they do that (tell people it is folded flesh), that is just my opinion. I couldn't do that job unless I was completely forthright with people because I would feel too guilty if I said something to make them feel better.  I think folded flesh is what occured so they didn't get a good picture. Let me know what you find out.
