Mole removed, results back appointment made

Very vague title I do apologise.

I had a mole removed on the 18/06/2019, the dermatologist at the time said worst case scenario it could be melonoma. I was meant to get the results in the post 2-4 weeks later. I was not too worried, I just thought it was a bit of a gross mole.

I had a missed call from a private number on Wednesday (26/06/2019) again thought nothing much of it, no message was left.

Then today (28/06/2019) I have received an appointment through with the dermatologist for Wednesday (03/07/2019). It's safe to say I am now terrified. I have a 4 year old and a 4 month old so I just need to not have anything seriously wrong with me.... (not sure what I am expecting to achieve by writing that section down, just putting it out into the universe!)

It's the urgency of it all that is really freaking me out the most.

  • Hi Leigh2471,

Please don't read too much into the swift appointment - it may be that your results were done quickly & are fine but they usually like to give results face to face, whether good or bad. If it turns out that they aren't fine then it's still not the end of the world so don't panic. I know it's frightening to get a diagnosis of cancer but great strides are being made in the field of melanoma and treatments are encouraging. If your mole was caught early it won't have grown too deep and then had chance to spread so there are lots of variables in what your results may be. I, myself, have had melanoma for 23 years and I know many patients who have had melanoma since their children were babies and they are now waving them off to university, seeing them marry or becoming parents themselves so try not to project your worry too far into the future.

Good luck with your results and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie

  • Hi Angie,

Thank you so much for taking the time to give such a positive reply. I will admit I immediately started panicking and thinking the worst. Your reply has been very reassuring, even if it is not great news, it might not be disastrous.

I hope that you are doing well?

    -Amy

  • I'm doing great thank you Amy. x
