3 week wait from CT scan to see specialist. Going crazy!

I’m hoping someone can reassure me. I was put on a SCAN which is some sort of suspected cancer pathway because I met the criteria of having spat out blood once and am over 40. I’ve also been a bit horse at times.

I got a CT scan appointment within a week. But after the CT scan I’m not seeing a specialist for 3 weeks. It’s an extraordinary wait without giving me any information. My GP surgery also called and booked a “review” with me. That’s 4 weeks after my initial appointment with them. I’m hoping if it was something serious they’d have me in quicker. Someone did suggest that, if they don’t find anything, they have you in anyway to discuss any other symptoms and to either sign you off or send you for more tests.

Anyone had anything similar?

  • Hi there - sorry you are worried it's not a nice place to be at all. I've had something similar & all turned out fine & this will likely be the case for you too. I had a number of tests & I had a GP appt. for 2 weeks later. They all came back clear but the GP didn't let me know until I actually saw her. Your GP will want to get to the bottom of the problem whatever it is but that doesn't mean you need to fear the worst.

My best advice would be to focus on keeping busy doing normal/everyday things so that you don't allow yourself the time to focus on negative thoughts. (Easy to say I know but best thing to do if you can). I do think that if there is anything serious your GP would ring you to come in sooner.

    All best wishes.

  • Thank you so much for the reassurance. It’s set my mind at rest. I’ve decided that if I’m still this concerned by Monday I will call the GP anyway for an update.

Thank you again. Really appreciate you taking the time to respond x

  • Hi there - glad I helped a bit. Please do let us know how you get on. Good luck xx
