  • Hi Salome,

I'm sorry to hear that you've been so upset about these recent test results. I hope that your appointment went well today and that the Dr/Nurse was able to reassure you.

Mild or low grade dsykaryosis does not mean that you have cancer. HPV is a common virus that most people are affected by at some point. Usually the body’s immune system gets rid of it and the virus does not cause damage. But if your test shows HPV, there is a chance the abnormal cells will not improve naturally. Having a colposcory will help the Dr's to find out in more detail about what's happening.

I'm sure that the Dr's told you today but If you need treatment following colposcopy you will usually be treated as an outpatient and there will be no need for you to stay in hospital. Treatment is nearly always 100 per cent successful. The area of changed cells will be removed from the cervix. The method for this will vary from clinic to clinic, but it is a simple procedure and will be carried out under local anaesthetic.

If you're still worried about your results and test then do give our nurses a call who will be happy to talk to you about things. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

    I hope this helps.

    best wishes,
