Lump in neck

Hiya all,

It’s been a long time since ive posted, I’m just looking for a sounding board to be honest, so back in June 2015 my Dad was diagnosed with a brain tumour and lung cancer. It was horrific. He faught for over a year but passed away in August 2016, three days before my 26th birthday. Jump to August 2017 and my mom at a routine eye test, is sent directly to the eye hospital and is diagnosed with a tumour in her eye. They treated it with radiotherapy and say it’s shrinking. When doing a MRI before the radiotherapy they found a small brain aneurysm. Been to the Drs today as she’s been having some pain in her neck and a small lump has appeared. The DR wasn’t sure on it and wants it ultrasound scanned. I’m not sure what I’m asking or what I’m posting really, but I’m petrified that it’s a tumour or her eye tumour has spread, had anyone had any experience with the neck lumps? She’s been extreamly tried and I’ve been putting it down to the muggy weather. I’m hopefully way overthinking things, but because of the past what I’ve encountered with my Dads cancer and my moms history too, I can’t help but worry and panic.  Dr says 2 weeks wait for ultrasound, it’s going to be such a panic ridden few weeks.

thanks for reading

  • Hello Lucy and welcome back to Cancer Chat although I am sorry about what brings you back here.

I can imagine that the trauma of losing your father to cancer is still very vivid and then how unfortunate that your mum was diagnosed just a year later with a tumour in her eye. I hope that she finds out soon what is causing these neck lumps. I can completely understand after everything you have been through that you are very fearful it is totally normal in your situation to worry. The not knowing and long wait for results can be so difficult and 2 weeks can often feel like a lifetime. To avoid focusing too much on this and letting the anxiety take over, try and keep busy and active if you can. The best thing to do in the next couple of weeks is to keep distracted and to avoid looking anything up online as this will often only make you worry more.

I hope you will hear from others on our forum who have been in a similar situation and that they will share their story with you.

Keeping fingers, toes, everything crossed for your mum that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
