Painful lump in breast

hi all, ok I have even calm - until now.

26 yrs ago I had awful mastitis when breast feeding and I developed a large uncomfortable lump in my left breast. I have had it checked out every year and every year told it’s fatty residual due to breast feeding (26 yrs on and still there)

about 2 weeks ago my dog very energetically jumped on my and landed on my left breast. The pain was excruciating. Since then I boob has gotten more and more painful, pins and needles down my left arm, I can not wear my wedding ring as my hand is swollen and two days ago whilst checking my boob the mastitis fatty lump was soooo painful I nearly hit the ceiling.

I have been keeping cool through this, I am an energy healer and have been keeping myself busy, however I lost my mum to breast cancer last year and sadly over the last 10 years I have lost far to many friends too.

i have an apt with the dr this afternoon as the pain is now down my left side, in my back, and my boob is sooo painful. The pain is escalating on a daily basis, and that is with plenty of rest and painkillers,

does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

Just a bit of reassurance please?

Cheers Trisha

  • Dear Trisha by now you have probably had your GP appointment, so I hope it went well.

I am afraid we are unable to tell you if your breast symptoms are anything to do with a serious condition such as cancer. I think if your GP is concerned about you breast you will have been referred to the breast clinic,  but your GP might diagnose you with an infection that needs to be treated.

I hope the appointment went well and that you know more about what is causing the symptoms.  If you have not been sent for further investigations or told what could be the matter and things do get worse with your breast then do go back and see your GP again.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi thank you,

yes had my appt yesterday, Dr is sending me to a breast clinic ‘just to be sure’ he said they will do a scan and mammogram if concerned. He also said it is u common that painful lumps are cancerous, more likely internal bruises from being jumped on by the dog, however the lump is around 5cm and best to get checked out.

    Have requested an urgent appt.

so on one hand nothing to worry about, on other urgent appt requested. Hmmm confused.

Told tomkeep taking painkillers if pain persists until checked out by breast clinic.
