dry skin on breasts and areolas

Hi I went to see a breast consultant just over a week ago due to pain/burning in one breast. The GP and hospital examined me a few weeks back for it and said it was non cyclic breast pain. I have also had ingrowing hair follicles on my breasts and a couple of weeks ago I had a fungal infection under both my breasts that I had to use fungal daktarin powder to clear up in the end as steroid cream made it worse. I went to see the private consultant over a week ago, he examined me, and I had a mammogram. That came back as normal. The next day I woke up with very dry skin over both breasts, and aerolas. i have emailed the clinic and they have told me to use e45 cream. It has sort of cleared up on the skin on my breasts, but the inside of both breasts and the aerolas are still dry. (both of them). I have seen pagets disease, that seems to be explained as mostly rare and usually effecting one nipple usually. Has anyone else had this? I did think maybe it was down to stress or a reaction to the wipes they use to clean the mammogram machine as it came on the next morning.

  • Hello oxfordemma78,

It is excellent news that your mammogram came back normal. I think if you are worried it might be worth going back to the GP and mentioning this dryness which is affecting both breasts.  You could consider also asking for a second opinion and you can find out more about this on this page

Try not to look up online what it might be as this will invariably bring up the most unlikely worst case scenarios and make you worry unnecessarily so the best thing to do if you are worried is to go back to the doctor's who will I am sure be able to reassure you and tell you exactly what may have caused this.

  • Hi thank you for the reply. I went to see a private GP as it is a 4 week wait for a GP appointment here. He told me it is nothing to worry about. I have a prescription for some steroid cream and some aveeno moistoriser.
