Worried waiting for haemotology appointment

Hi all... in January I had a lump appear behind my ear (I had a sinus infection at the time)... since then glands have come up in my neck, groin and left armpit. Ive been having mild night sweats on and off, intense itching of my head and neck and a lot of pain in the areas of swollen glands and across my collar bone. I've also lost 7ibs without trying and I'm exhausted all the time. My GP said it's unlikely to be lymphoma, but referred me to endocrinology. The endocrinologist didn't know why I'd been referred to her and has referred me to haemotology, she also referred me for a CT scan with contrast to save waiting for one after seeing heamotology as she thinks they would send me for one anyway.... so I've had my scan and my heamotology appointment is next week... should i be worried ? Should I take someone with me ?... don't know how to feel at the moment, on one hand I don't want it to be lymphoma, but on the other, I'm hoping they can at least see what's causing all these pains and get it sorted... i can't even wear a wired bra at the moment as it feels uncomfortable (at first I thought I'd got pleurisy again but it never got past the uncomfortable stage). Also if I'm walking for long periods it really aggravates the lumps in my groin so that I feel like I need to just sit or lay down for a while as it's so uncomfortable..... sorry for the long winded post. I've been bottling this all up since the first lumps in January...

The ache in my lumps is there all the time but some days are worse than others and it's really getting me down, to the point that some days I have to have a good cry.

Ps had bloods done and they were all normal.

Original ear lump ultrasound showed reactive nodes but sonogropher wasn't worried as said it wasn't big enough....

  • Just wanted to say you are not alone. I have symptoms of lymphona (night sweats, fatigue, pain, fevers, skin rashes ect) except the lumps though i do feel like my throat is swollen sometimes and sometimes not, some of my bloods came back a little raised. My first haematology appointment basically was the doctor taking a history, doing a physical exam and sending me off for more bloods and had a scan a few days later. I am due to get all my results on monday which i just want to know now coz i was last seen by them the 13th of may so the wait has sometimes been hell. But this forum is a great help and they are lovely people here.

    Take care x

  • Hi Sammyg2010

My Ct was 15th May and I've been ringing hospital to see how I would get my results. They were confused as they said the results would go to endocrinology as they had requested them, I then asked them to check when my haemotology appointment would be, since I had been told at the end of April that I would be referred to them along with my CT referral. Turned out they hadn't actually sent the referral to haemotology, but the next day I had a phone call with an appointment in 2 weeks (which is this monday coming ).. still no one knew about my CT results. Im hoping that Haemotology will have them and have had a look before I get there...

You mention skin rashes.. are yours all over ? I've had a few strange rashes on my left arm that are really itchy and look like burns.. but only my left arm, which incidentally is the same side as the armpit gland.

I supposed I'd better write a list for Monday so I don't forget to mention stuff..

Good luck for your results on Monday x

  • Well of your scan has been done in the same hospital that your haem appointment then they should have access to it as long as its been reported by the radiologist which it should have been by now. Generally with scans you get the results from a consultant in your care, i wouldnt trust anyone else to read them to be honest.

Writing a list is good, i have one to take back and theres like 20 odd symptoms on it from over the years just in case it might be something auto immune rather than cancer such as lupus which can cause lots of symptoms.

As for the rash its a bit odd to be honest it looks like red dots and it ranges from chest/arms/face. From what i have been told it looks like a petechie rash/ heat rash. Ive been getting horrendous itching aswell with no rash for which i have had to be given perscription strength anti-histamines.

Good luck for your results too i think the worst part is waiting tbh i just want to know at this point and get on with life.

  • Hi.

Just wanted to say good luck for tomorrow x.

I've been googling and the only other thing near my symptoms would be fibromyalgia, but it doesn't mentions swollen glands as a symptom although all my other symptom match

I know what you mean about the waiting though. This has been going on since January (although the fatigue has been going on since November, but I just put that down to being really busy).

I just want to know what's going on now, so I can just get on with it, whatever the outcome.

Anyway, like I said, fingers crossed and good luck for the best results tomorrow x

  • Aww thank you for this message you have no idea what this mean to me today, having a rough day tbh at work and customers are being horrible.

One of the things that i looked up similar to lymphoma symptoms was Lupus which is auto immune rather than cancer. Im going to ask them tomorrow about this if its not cancer.

Thank you and keep in touch.
