Waiting for results

Hello everyone. I was so pleased to stumble on this forum. I am also waiting for results from my biopsy which was on 5th June. I first noticed an area of almost black skin in a very sensitive area after being diagnosed with a double prolapse. After about a month I realised it was getting bigger and becoming more and more sore so saw my GP. She made an urgent referral to Gynae for me and the biopsy was taken at that appt. I was wondering really whether a longer wait could be bad news rather than good. Any thoughts? Thank you for reading my 'essay'!

  • Hi Catmum.

I'm sorry you having a tough time at the minute.

I'm sending positive vibes your way.

All I can say I'd try not to worry...believe me I know that's easier said than done.

I can only go off of personal experience.

I have had 2 biopsys, one of the cervix and one in the mouth.

My cervix biopsy took 4 weeks to come back (was told that's pretty average) it came back as CIN1 which is not cause for concern, just have to have more regular smears to keep an eye on things.

The mouth biopsy only takes 2 weeks (get my results 26th june)

So my point is I think different areas have different time frames.

Just imagine how many biopsy have to be examined each day!

I have also read that different tissue samples can take longer as they have to use chemicals to soften the tissue enough to be able to slice thin layers of the tissue to take a closer look under the microscope.

Fingers crossed you get the all clear.

    Please keep us updated x

  • Hi Catmum,

Emmaa88 has already given you good advice. I know, from a skin cancer patient point of view, that our biopsies are taking about 4 weeks to come back. The speed or delay of a result isn't indicative of good or bad news, it just means that some histology departments have larger workloads than others.

If they didn't give you a time frame for your results I suggest you wait until the end of the month and, if you haven't heard anything, contact your consultant's secretary and ask if the results are back. They can't tell you the results over the phone (if they are back) but they may be able to give you an idea as to how much longer you have to wait.

I hope you aren't waiting too much longer and that the results bring you good news,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi Catmum

I also had a biopsy of my perineum, a black mole looking spot, and a biopsy of my endometrium under GA at the same time. I have a follow up appoint 11 july for both biopsys.. I am usually laid back and can bury my head about things, but not this, the waiting is really getting me down...Thanks to this forum I realise I'm not alone. x

  • Hi Maria29.

I think waiting is possible the worst part!

At least with results, good or bad you know what your dealing with and can take the next steps from there.

I say try not to worry yet I worry all the time.

My biggest fear is if its anything bad what would happen to my children...its a scary thought.

Thankfully for me and the location of my biopsy it has a very high success rate but nevertheless still worrying so I can totally understand it must be a lot worse for you all.

It is nice to know we can come here and chat though.

I feel that unless your in this waiting position people don't truly understand even though they try.

Fingers crossed your results come back clear.

    Sending positive vibes your way.
