Possible Ovarian Cancer

Had a hysterectomy 4 weeks ago due to a prolapse which was causing me problems, had no other option but to have this surgery. They removed uterus, cervix, Fallopian tubes, ovaries. It was keyhole surgery through the vagina which I was glad because it’s an easier recovery and no scars and visible wounds to heal. After the operation the surgeon came to me and said they removed everything but she was concerned about my ovary, she didn’t like the look of it, I said to her if she thought it was cancer and she gave me a look but didn’t respond. She said it was going to the lab to get tested. I still haven’t had results and have to wait till Monday to see if I have any news. My blood platelets are really low and I’m bleeding bad from my nose and any cuts I’ve had. Brushing all over my body as well.

Randomly got a letter through the door for an appointment to get a fluoroscopy done. I’m unsure as to what it is as no one mentioned I was to get this done and it’s concerned me further and yet still no results back. I’m also worried because I have a history in my family over cancer in the women’s side, although I’ve made it to 68 in good health thus far I don’t want to go through something scary like this and it’s truly a daunting thought.

Any ideas what I should do moving forward?

Thanks for reading!

  • Hi Rosemarie,

Although I don't know yet what you are going through as I am only just going through the diagnosis stages but I wanted to tell you to keep strong and that I'm thinking of you. It's very confusing especially being told by a letter. Is there a telephone number on the letter where you can give them a call to find out what is they are going to do and why?

My story us a little bit different and I'm so confused and scared! I've been poorly for a long time but I've ignored the symptoms thinking it was related to my ulcerative colitis and painful bladder syndrome. I've been bleeding from the bowel, constipation, diarrhoea, irregular bleeding, periods lasting 9 days rather than my normal 1 day, blood clotting, water infections, abdominal pain and extreme fatigue.  My dr sent me for an ultrasound scan on the 28th May and it showed that there was a mass on my right ovary measuring 4.75cm in diameter. Unfortunately as I took poorly and pain was severe I ended up in hospital .At first they treated me for a colitis flare up but my consultant noticed that I'd had a scan on the 28th May and decided that I needed a CT scan which I had on the 7th of June whilst I was in hospital. I wasn't expecting what come next. My bowel consultant advised that he had page someone from the gynea team to come and speak to me as there had been some changes from the first scan. A consultant from the gynea team come to my room and advised that the mass had grown a further 2cm diameter and that there is solid characteristics within the mass. She advised that following my first scan there was an appointments made for me on the 14th November but she has cancelled that and an urgent appointment would be within 4weeks. She explained the risks, surgery is definitely required and that I will be having a MRI scan of my pelvis. I was discharged from hospital last Sunday after being in for nearly 2 weeks and I'm still waiting for the appointments to come through.  I am going out of my mind.

Do you mind me asking what symptoms you had and how you come to having a hysterectomy?

I'm 37 and petrified that this is what I'll need.
