Fibroadenoma

I found a lump in my right breast which I originally thought was just a cyst and was sent to the breast clinic but as I’m only young (18 years old ) the doctors weren’t worried. I also had mastitis in my left breast and took antibiotics however as I don’t have children and I’m not pregnant I was a little confused and when I went to the clinic it hadn’t gone after a full course of antibiotics and was told it was just a thickening of cells however it’s very painful and is getting much harder and lumpier as the days go on. I had an ultrasound and the doctor diagnosed me with a Fibroadenoma. He said it was fine and i should be fine and come back in a couple months for a check up. However in the past few days it’s veen growing at an increasingly worrying rate. Would anyone be able to give me some advice?

  • Hi Lucy ..

I can imagine your really confused ... it could be your feeling or touching that boob more, if feeling for lumps .. and aggravating it .. but whatever it is, get another appointment with a lady G P and tell her it feels like it's getting bigger ..

Ultrasound is usually really good at picking things up .. and I think they don't do mamorgrams on young ones as their breasts are different to us older ones ... but at least they may put your mind at rest ... but remember 9 out of 10 lumps in breast are benign... and even rarer at your age ... so the odds are good ..
