Not sure what to think

My husband has been feeling unwell for a few weeks. The gp has taken 3 stool samples and full blood tests. The calprotectin test came back showing an inflamed bowel and the others came back clear, his blood test showed slight anemia. However during this time he has been admitted to a&e with stomach pains, the hospital ran his bloods again and found an infection but couldn’t find the cause (no mention of low iron levels!) he was then sent for a CT scan which has shown narrowing of his colon and a lesion, the drs believe this to be cancer. We have got a chest ct scan this week and colonoscopy next. Our GP has said that the ct scan is ambiguous. I have no idea what to think or do. He is only 38 and has had no other symptoms apart from the stomach pain which comes and goes. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Hello Green80

I just wanted to pop along and say welcome to the forum. I'm really sorry to hear about the possible diagnosis that your husband is facing at the moment. I'm sure it's a really difficult time for you both.

The period of time when tests are being completed and you're waiting for results can be particularly hard. Not knowing what is causing your husband this pain can inevitably lead to thinking of all sorts of outcomes.

Hopefully once the CT and colonscopy are completed you won't have to wait too long for the results. If in the meantime you think it would be helpful to chat to one of our team of nurses about things, they they are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on next week.

    Best wishes,

  • Sorry to hear of this. Did he ever find out what was causing the bowel inflammation? Hope all is well.
