Advice please

Just after some advice please

Im 28 and just had my first baby (beautiful little girl) 5 months ago ... whilsy pregnant i was having a lot of bloating back ache leg pain pelvic pain etc all.put down by myself to pregnancy... now 5 months on and symptoms getting worse. Still got all the mentioned above and now accompanied with feeling full quickly, loss of appetite, severe night sweats, nausea, dizzyness, incredibly heaving periods, exhaustion, and episodes of blacking out, painful intercourse and intermittent bleeding.

I just kept putting things down to pregnancy and post pregnancy. Trying to put to the back of my mind that i have a cery strong fanily history of cancer- in that every member of my mums side including her have died from breast or ovarian cancers and again every member of my dads side has also died of some form of cancer.

Finally my boyfriend convinced me to go to drs who have sent me for an ultrasound and ca125 blood test. Ultrasound has been done and the sonographer didnt seem too worried but no awaiting blood results.

Has anyone had this ? If the ca125 comes back raises but ultrasound ok what could this mean ? What would happen next ?

Thanks in advance -very anxious x

  • Hi again ..

Always here if you need a chat .. it's just been so many threads lately .. and some are slipping through .. as after the nurses and moderaters do their bit .. it just leaves us to try and fill in .. and wer just like you, people with cancer or caring for someone with cancer... that stay on and try to get to those threads .. esp new ones ... but wer not medically qualified... so I don't know things like "ca125" goes over my head ..

I'm a breast cancer lass .. and there's lots of different people with different cancers and different treatments treatment ... that's why I was hoping  someone would know ..

Any ways fingers crossed ... and lots read it, but if they don't know the answer will leave it hoping someone else will ..

  • Hi EadiesMummy

Congratulations (albeit belated) on the birth of your daughter! What a hectic time this must be for you and to be dealing with health problems too makes it doubly hard.

Well done for going to the Dr's about your symptoms. It can be easy to dismiss things especially when you're so busy with the baby. It sounds as if your GP is being proactive in arranging for the ultrasound and blood test which is positive.

Although you mention that the sonographer "didn't seem too worried" I'm presuming that you haven't actually had the results back from either your ultrasound or your blood test yet.

CA125 is a protein produced by some ovarian cancers. It circulates in the blood, so it can be measured with a blood test.

CA125 is not a completely reliable test for ovarian cancer. This is because some other conditions of the womb and ovaries also produce CA125, such as endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease and pregnancy.

Most women have a low level of CA125 in their blood. If your level is high, it is a sign that there is some kind of problem and you will need to have further tests.

Until you have your results back it's a bit of a waiting game and I know that lots of our members here will agree that waiting can be a really hard time.

I'm sure that baby is keeping you busy in the meantime and hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer for your results.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi thanks for the reply

No not had either results yet got an appointment on the 20th  . I think its made worse by seeing so many of my family members going through this and the drs giving me so many leaflets about it

    Thanks again x
