Very Confused!

Hi,

I was treated for anal cancer 3 years ago.

During my oncologist appointment following my routine 6 month CT scan I was told I had an "occurance" just behind my cervix. My oncologist examined me vaginally and said everything looked and felt normal.  He said he was booking me an urgent MRI scan.

When the appointment letter for the MRI scan came through it said "MRI Rectum".  Nobody had said anything about rectal cancer.  I called my hospital and spoke to a nurse who checked my records.  She said my oncologist had requested a pelvic and gynae MRI to include vagina and anus. I am still in the dark.  I don't know what they are looking for anymore. Can anyone who has been treated for cervical cancer tell me if they had a similar scan?

  • Hi Fluffykat

I have cervical cancer and my initial scan was a pelvic mri. This was followed by a CT scan of my thorax and abdomen. I had another pelvic mri following treatment which was extended to include my abdomen and chest. I’m assuming the pelvic mri includes all the areas front and back they want to have a look at, but I do wish consultants would give patients more information so they don’t panic unnecessarily!

Good luck with your scan and I hope you don’t have too long to wait for this and subsequent results.x
