I was on holiday three weeks ago in Kent when had flooding down below with cola coloured fluid. Initially thought it was vaginal but decided it was from bladder. Second day became blood stained, I was middle of nowhere Sunday night so phoned 111 who sent ambulance who examined me and advised as otherwise fit and well, no point in going to A&E 25 miles away as would face a minimum 5 hour wait to be seen. I decided to wait and go next day.
Next day all stopped. Thinking it over my symptoms were consistent with stuck kidney stone clearing.. Phoned home surgery and got appointment for following Saturday at home GP hub. Two days clear then had brief loss of blood from vagina. Panicked. I am 70s long past menopause. Booked appointment in local private hospital for following day where agreed it seemed to be Kidney stone and UTI. urine test showed high level of white blood cells. Prescribed Nitrofontain. (This turns urine red brown so unable to tell if urine clear..) Nasty side effects. Back home at GP hub, was told would recommend for urgent ultrasounds on pelvis, kub, internal tva. Following Tuesday got call from Kent doctor saying urine MSU test had high level of white blood cells but not grown culture. Recommended seek ultrasound.
Went round to own practice and saw young female locum GP who confirmed GP hub request for ultrasound was on record. Blood stained urine gradually cleared although Nitrofontain side effects took longer. Following Tuesday watered garden with heavy cans and afterward at once started bleeding from bladder and vagina. Panicked and went to A & E. They ran standard blood tests - all clear, urine test - some residual urine infection, CT kub scan - clear, and looked at vagina, saw small amount of blood in vagina and put in for gynae referral. Prescribed another antibiotic.
I went back to GP surgery a fews days later because I had some questions. Saw same female locum. Entirely unhelpful and uninformative. I asked why had not had any urgent ultrasound and she said was no longer relevant now I had 2 week referral by A & E. She did say that CT scan was clear it meant I had no UTI and should focus on blood in vagina. I pointed out I still had blood stained urine and she challenged this and said how did I know it wasn't from vagina. I said it was too high up. (I am wondering if I have a very tiny fistula). I wanted to discuss possible reasons for blood in vagina but she refused to discuss it and said i would i just have to wait for hospital visit. She gave clear impression she thought omens were bad and did not want to discuss it with me.I do have a named GP but she is impossible to see. All appointments pre booked. I think I will write to her.
Meanwhile as I am quite old I have not had sex in a while and am worried about firstly, if the non cancer reasons for my symptoms do not apply as a result and secondly, how painful the tests will be. Can anyone advise? Like everyone one here I have been poleaxed by developing symptoms and sadly my GP locum has not been reassuring or informative in any way.
