Ca125 35. Pressure in lower right back for quite a while

Hi, I’m just a bit nervous as I have had a call from my gp asking me to go in for a chat about my ca125 levels being “borderline” at 35. I went to the GP with what I thought were symptoms of the menopause, he took some blood a few weeks later I got the call telling me about ca125. Now I’ve googled it I realise that the storage pressure I’ve been feeling in my lower right back for quite sometime might be worth looking into. Do you think I should ask for a referral for a scan, or with a borderline ca125 it’s not worth pressing the issue.

  • Hi Lisa,

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some health concerns at the moment. It sounds as if your GP has been proactive in trying to get to the  cause of your problems so far and it's positive that they've rung you wanting to talk about things further.

CA125 is not a completely reliable test for ovarian cancer. This is because some other conditions of the womb and ovaries also produce CA125, such as endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease and pregnancy.

Most women have a low level of CA125 in their blood. If your level is high, it is a sign that there is some kind of problem and you will need to have further tests.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your next appointment with the GP and they'll be able to reassure you with the next steps for looking into the cause of your symptoms.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn, thank you for your reply. I saw GP yesterday, he said that it’s nothing to worry about and to come back in six months for another blood test. Thanks to this website and all the information provided I was able to get him to refer me for a scan. Keeping fingers crossed that the GP is right, but I feel knowledge is power and reassured that at least it’s being looked into.

    Thanks again
