CA125 Level 41

Hello.

I received a letter today from my gynaecologist saying I have a slightly raise CA125 level of 41. I didn’t even know I was having a CA125 test - or what it means! I’ve since googled and can see it’s an indicator of ovarian cancer and now I’m worried sick. I know I have a cyst on my left ovary, the gynaecologist noticed it 18 months ago when I had my first appt for fertility treatment. I’m worried that it’s been there all that time and if it is cancer it will be too late. I know I sound irrational but I’m worried. I’m only 32, I don’t want to die.

  • Hi StripesAndSunshine,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your worries. How you're feeling is of course perfectly natural, especially when things are uncertain.

Do you have a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss your results? If not, make sure you can speak to them so that you can have everything explained - it's important that you know what's going on. In the meantime, try to not think too negatively (I know this is easier said than done), and also to stay away from Google if possible as you need to make sure the information is specific to you.

If you have any questions for our nurses, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Do feel free to let us know how you get on with everything, if you would like to, and I hope you find this forum useful.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi I know you are worried but I have read that a raised CA125 can just mean an infection. Did your gynaecologist do any tests when they spotted the cyst? I am sure they would not have left you

18months without treatment if they thought it was anything more than a cyst. Ring or make an appointment with your GP and tell them your worries. Let us know how you get on.

I am also going to see a gynaecologist next week so like you I am very worried. Good luck
