Skin cancer

Hi everyone. I don’t know what I’m doing or if I’m doing this right, all I know is I feel like I’m going crazy with worry and I just need some answers.

Right here it is...

about 6 weeks ago a freckle that I had on the back of my arm just below my shoulder was weeping. I wiped it away and didn’t think no more of it. Then 2 weeks later my HO noticed I had what looked like a brown scab. Turns out that was my freckle. It had gone from a flat pale freckle to this dark brown and red patch of a scabby mole.

I went to the doctor and she gave me a antibiotic cream to put on it just in case I had knocked and so on. After using the cream for few days the scabby mole fell off and I’m now left with what looks like a BCG scar with a dark ring around it.

I went and had Tele Dermatology yesterday and had to send her photos of what used to be there and she took photos of what’s there now.

I have to wait now for a outcome after some specialist exam the photos

I’m just wondering if anyone has experience this and was it serious or am I worrying over nothing.

  • Hi R_86

I'm sorry to hear that you've been feeling anxious about this mole/freckle.

Seeing your GP and going to the specialist clinic to get this checked sounds like a very sensible decision. Have they told you how long before you will get the results of your examination?

It's a natural response to worry whilst waiting for results. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

I myself haven't experienced a mole/freckle acting like this but I know of several that have. Sometimes it can be serious and a biopsy will be arranged but at other times they are found to be benign. Moles/freckles can sometimes bleed, scab and disappear or fall off - they aren't always cancerous. So hopefully yours will be fine but don't panic if they refer you for a biopsy as a photo isn't always enough to make a diagnosis. I hope you aren't waiting too long for the result to come back. Please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)
